About the Partlow UK-Name Study
- Purpose
The aim of this site is to trace and record the diverse ancestry of the Partlow name and some of its variants, dating from the early 1600s through to modern times.
It is hoped to later extend this work to an international setting, tracing the emmigrations of people to the New World and Australia.
Researchers are welcome to contact us, much of this site already being the result of international research and co-operation.
- Sources
Much of the work has been done over a number of years, the main sources being the County Records Offices of Oxfordshire and Berkshire, plus the central libraries of Birmingham and Milton Keynes in the UK.
- Conventions
The name of Partlow has a number of variations, including Partlo, Partelo, Parthloe etc. By the mid-1800's the spelling had usually settled into the Partlow spelling, with the exception of one branch in Berkshire which stayed as Partlo.
Spellings often changed within an individual's lifetime, sometimes due to an official or clerk recording an event. Where applicable, individuals have been listed with their name as recorded at baptism, even where this name changes permanently within the record at a later date.
