  • Linked documents Sergeant in the Royal Marines
Thomas joined the Royal Marines in the 1830's and was based at the Woolwich Division. He took part in action at Acre circa 1841/42 and was later awarded 2 medals for his service. In 1943 his son, Edward Broadbent, included some details in a letter which is the starting point for further research.
  • Residence in 1881
In the 1881 census, Thomas is living at 12 Fleetwood Street, Stoke Newington, London. This is a small road bordering on Abney Park Cemetery where later his son Albert Thomas Broadbent was to be buried. The location of Thomas' grave is, as yet, unknown and he is not listed as a burial in the neighbouring cemetery.
  • Last Will and Testament
Thomas' will is a simple affair, unlike other more complex wills so far discovered in the family tree. In it he leaves everything to his wife, Anne Elizabeth Broadbent. It is signed and witnessed 21st February 1885.
