THE TRAVELS OF JOSEPH PARTLOW

The research into the Partlo family of Lower Heyford, Oxfordshire begins with the children of William and Ann Partlo. [View Family Tree] Dates for this tree are derived from the IGI and hence need checking.

It is now believed that nearly all this family left the area, some to migrate to Canada and the United States, while others went north to the Midlands and on to Nottinghamshire and Derbyshire to work in the coal fields. As the families left the area, so the name began to change to the modern Partlow variation, with the exception of a branch that initially travelled to Berkshire.

The main difficulty comes in tracking the movements of Joseph Partlow and Mary Cooper, who look as though they are the origins of most of the Partlow families in Derbyshire. There is some doubt as to the number of children they had and also where they lived as they moved north. Of all the possible children, only Elizabeth Partlo is included in the initial tree above as having a baptism recorded in the parish registers online.

A more likely family tree is included here, derived from information added to the FamilySearch web site by a member of the LDS church. There is some confusuion in this data and the tree is probably not valid... One added detail is the discovery of Mary Ann Partlow and Jonathan Orton in the 1881 census, confirming part of the online data.

The report now follows the two brothers Jacob Partlow and Joseph Partlow, who both move north to Tibshelf, Derbyshire, each having a large family that spread across the village in the late 1800's.
