Brynmor Harries
Thomas Treharne, the son-in-law to Hopkin Harries, has been found and traced through three different census returns. The elusive witness to Hopkin's death certificate looks to be the son of one William and Mary Treharne of Trecastle in Carmarthenshire.
Thomas signed as witness to the death of Hopkin Harries and is entered as living at the Gwendraeth Arms, Llannon.
Entry on death certificate
The 1901 census has Thomas age 54 married to Margaret who is some 20 years younger. There are also 5 children listed in the Gwendraeth Arms household, with the youngest being another Margaret age 8 years old.
Research on the Free BMD web site which lists the indexes of births, marriages and deaths has turned up the following reference:
Marriages March 1892 : Treharne Thomas, Harries Margaret ref: Llanelly vol.11a p.1164
However, the 1891 census has Margaret aged 26 working as a domestic in the public house run by Thomas, a widow.
Looks like a quick marriage as a result of a pregnancy. The only trouble is, we now have to trace the birth of Margaret Harries born circa 1865 and show that she is the (as yet unknown) child of Hopkin.
